I’ll be honest right from the start – today it is not really about a driving tour. Todays’ blog post is about an icon, an oldtimer from Opel. And it is its 50th birthday this year – the Opel GT 1900 of our friends Patrik and Evelyne.
Designed by Eberhard Schnell as the european answer for the Corvette, the iconic Coke-Bottle-Form was released to the market in 1968 for about 10.000 Mark.
Because of its 50th anniversary, we went for a small drive with our friends Patrik and Evelyne with their Opel GT 1900.
Originally, we had planned a tour through the german forest Spessart – but light, location and the car were so special that the drive itself became only secondary.
The original slogan “Only flying is more exciting” is basically a reflection of the design language of the car.
The first design study, Opel Experimental GT, was released in 1965 with square folding headlights. Thankfully, that was changed for the series, because the rounded headlights fit much better into the design.
The car has no trunk. The space in the back is used for the gasoline tank.
Details – the wooden steering wheel!
Of course, other cars also have beautiful design details. Headlights, the interior, or beautiful sidelines. But there are few cars as beautiful as the Opel GT. Even though it has no trunk and only space for two people. But it is 2018, and nobody drives an 50 year old icon as daily.

Many thanks to Patrik and Evelyne for taking their time and having patience with us. We hope you enjoy the pictures! 🙂
Oh and, yeah, we went through the Spessart. But is it really important today where we went? 😉
